Two members of the Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia team will be participating in the Data Science Africa (DSA) conference this year. 

The DSA conference is a prestigious event held annually in which experts from around the globe and continent meet to share knowledge on data science and AI on the continent. The event is split into 2 events. Summer School and the Workshop. Malaizyo Gabriel Muzumala and Dr Lighton Phiri will be attending this year, with Dr Phiri scheduled to make a workshop presentation at the event.

We are proud to announce that our paper, titled "User-Centered Design and Implementation of Useful Picture Archiving and Communication Systems for Effective Radiological Workflows in Public Health Facilities in Zambia," has been accepted for publication in the SAICSIT CCIS Springer proceedings.

Introduction to the Seminar

On May 15th, Andrew Shawa, a research student from the Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia (EMIZ) project, presented an engaging colloquium titled "Intelligent DICOM Viewers: Orthanc Plugin for Semi-Automated Interpretation of Medical Images." This colloquium was part of a series of seminars for the 2023/24 CSC 5741 course, designed to bridge the gap between academic research and industry applications in the field of medical imaging.

On May 15th, as part of the 2023/24 CSC 5741 course series, the Academic/Industry Colloquium featured a groundbreaking presentation by Malaizyo Gabriel Muzumala, a research student from the Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia (EMIZ) project. His talk, titled "Semi-Automated Classification and Detection of Community Acquired Pneumonia," provided valuable insights into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical imaging, with a focus on practical applications in low-resource settings.

Introduction to the Seminar

In a recent seminar for the 2023/24 CSC 5741 course, Elijah Chileshe delivered an illuminating talk titled "Large-Scale Analysis of Medical Image Metadata" on 08 May, 2024. The seminar, held for MSc in Computer Science students from The University of Zambia, was a highlight in a series of academic discussions aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the realm of medical imaging.

The Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia (EMIZ) project team conducted a validation workshop as part of Work Package 1 (Policies and Procedures) at the Confucius Institute, University of Zambia, Lusaka. This pivotal event, held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, brought together a diverse group of medical practitioners, experts, and stakeholders to deliberate on critical themes and challenges in medical imaging practices.

We are delighted to share the exciting news of Lishebo Lishebo joining the EMIZ Project Team. A recent graduate from The University of Zambia, Lishebo brings a wealth of knowledge with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, specializing in Software Engineering. His academic journey has been highlighted by notable achievements, culminating in a standout final year project that showcases his proficiency and creativity in the realm of software development.
