We are excited to share details about our recent paper presentation, "Enterprise Medical Imaging for Streamlined Radiological Diagnosis in Zambian Public Health Facilities," showcased at the esteemed 2023 DRGS Research Seed Grant Symposium in Lusaka, Zambia. Presented by Dr. Lighton Phiri from the DataLab Research Group at the University of Zambia.
The presentation began by introducing the DataLab Research Group, a standout team in Data Mining, Digital Libraries, and Technology-Enhanced Learning. It transitioned to emphasize the transformative Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia Project, generously supported by grants from Google Research, Data Science Africa, and The University of Zambia. This groundbreaking project addresses the critical shortage of radiologists in Zambia through the implementation of cutting-edge Enterprise Imaging techniques.
The core of the presentation focused on highlighting the challenges within radiological workflows in Zambia, emphasizing the scarcity of trained professionals and the reliance on manual processes. The Enterprise Medical Imaging project proposes solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in medical imaging workflows. Notable ongoing efforts include the establishment of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS) platforms, laying the groundwork for the integration of Artificial Intelligence to redefine healthcare services.
