Our submission to JCDL 2021, titled "Improved Discoverability of Digital Objects in Institutional Repositories Using Controlled Vocabularies" has been accepted and will be presented during the upcoming JCDL 2021 conference.
The paper is based on research findings from research being conducted by a Master's student---Robert M'sendo---and findings from research conducted as part of a capstone project by a group of undergraduate students---Bertha Chipangila, Eric Liswaniso, Andrew Mawila, Philomena Mwanza, and Nawila Daisy.
The paper uses The University of Zambia as a case study setting to demonstrate the adverse effect of the lack of use of controlled vocabularies. It also presents findings from a usability study conducted to assess the effect of controlled vocabularies when integrated within IR and, additionally, demonstrates the feasibility of using a multilabel supervised machine learning classifier for automatically predicting subject categories associated with computing-centric scholarly publications.
JCLD 2021 will be hosted by the School of Information Sciences of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The event will be held between September 27--30, 2021, and will be held virtually, due to the Global Pandemic.
