On January 19 and 20, 2026, the DIALOGUES Project held a Digital Technologies for Accessibility Training Workshop for lecturers at Kitwe College of Education. The workshop showed lecturers how everyday digital tools can make teaching and learning more accessible, including for Deaf and blind students. It was facilitated by Prof. Innocent Mutale Mulenga, Prof. David Mwanza, Mrs Christine Mwanza, Dr Magdalene Simalalo and Dr Lighton Phiri, and was opened and closed by Mr Chishimba, Principal of the college.
Hands-on sessions
Dr Phiri led a series of practical sessions in the college's computer laboratory:
- Presentation tools and accessibility: creating Google Slides decks from scratch, from templates or from existing PowerPoint files, designing accessible slides, and using automated captions so that Deaf students can follow a presentation;
- Google Meet: running online classes with live transcription;
- Google Classroom: organising courses, materials and assignments online;
- Google Forms: setting and managing online assessments; and
- Tooling for accessibility: Google Calendar, prompting large language models, and NotebookLM.

Other sessions introduced Storybook Zambia and Braille in the age of technology, and the workshop closed with the distribution of donated equipment, including routers and a computer, to the college.
